"City Marks" Anti-Graffiti Curriculum

4/29/2016

MetaFour was engaged by partner Superior Grocers to create an anti-graffiti curriculum to implement with the students from Wallis Annenberg High School in response to severe graffiti destroying the Superior Grocer’s “Eat More Fruit and Veggies” mural. The curriculum was implemented in three sessions to address the essential question:  “Is unsanctioned art on private or public property acceptable?" The approach of "City Marks" was open-ended, while encouraging empathic thought, critical thinking, and problem-solving.

Eat More Fruit & Veggie Mural Redux

2/20/2016

Our friends at Superior Grocers engaged MetaFour to produce a video documentary of the restoration of the original “Eat More Fruit and Veggies” mural at their Compton Avenue location. The 120-foot mural, designed and painted in 2013 by artist Andre Miripolsky, utilized students from the Wallis Annenberg High School (WAHS). In the fall of 2015, the mural was severely tagged. Superior worked with Miripolsky and a new group of students to reimagine the mural, incorporating some of the graffiti images. Superior hosted a mural unveiling and Health and Wellness Fair to celebrate with the community in November 2015. The Superior Grocers Foundation and partners provided thousands of dollars in scholarships to WAHS students. Additionally, MetaFour wrote curriculum about the impact of graffiti on a community, which will be implemented at WAHS. Stay tuned for the video!

MetaFour and "Beyond Walls" in LA Weekly

11/4/2014

MetaFour has so SO much going on (said they with a commitment to post more frequently), including some wonderful events and partnerships that have occurred over the last months!!

Starting with today's find, we scored a nice photo in LA Weekly of our "Beyond Walls Photo and Video Project" from the Brewery Art Walk, which was held on October 25 & 26, 2014. Check out three of the four founding MetaFour members from the link below: Julie Drake, Carmen Dean, and Eric Luke. Board members Judy AmicAngelo, Joana Rivas, Tricia Horton, plus many other friends, visited and assisted over the weekend.

Many thanks to the Brewery Art Walk Association and our newest board member, Kristine Shomaker, for the partnering opportunity to get the word out about BeyondWallsOnline.org, our online environment for youth to post creative works about world issues.
